Can you go in a normal car?
Visit Navarra advises against sports cars and minis on these circuits. The park allows motor vehicles only on authorised tracks, at 40 km/h maximum, and forbids groups of five or more. A normal car fits the Blanca track when that stretch is dry and open. A 4x4 does not allow you to leave the track or drive around a barrier.
The loop is just below. An organised trip: 4x4.
What if it has rained?
The park advises against entering when rain has damaged tracks and paths. Clay mud does not care whether the car is a saloon or a 4x4. A clear sky leaving Arguedas does not open a closed stretch: read the notices the same day.
The 25 km loop from Arguedas
Visit Navarra describes two main car circuits and advises against sports cars and mini cars. The first is the one search already associates with “Bardenas by car”:
- From Arguedas (N-134), the roughly 25 km track around the Bardena Blanca, including Castildetierra. Visit Navarra’s indication: about 2 hours for a first visit. Logical start: information centre, Finca de los Aguilares, entry from NA-8712 km 0.8. This is not a time Vive Bardenas measured.
- From Carcastillo, entry via El Paso. On 14 September 2026 the park still listed the Perimetral–El Paso stretch as closed: do not treat that finish as given.
What other sites still get wrong

- The Cabezo de Cortinillas path was still closed for rockfall (a 2021 notice, still published). It is not Castildetierra. It is not a plan B “because it is in photos”.
- The track between the Perimetral and El Paso was still closed: do not build a Carcastillo circuit on that junction.
- Climbing is forbidden across the territory. A famous silhouette does not authorise a scramble.

Can I follow a GPS trace labelled “Bardenas loop”?
Not as navigation. A blog or app trace does not override the official plan, signage and the day’s notices.
Are 25 km / 2 hours enough for the day?
That is Visit Navarra’s block for a first visit, with few stops. Add the centre if it is open, a meal in a village and a margin until one hour before nightfall.
The map before the satnav
Download the plan from the park’s brochures page and cross-check it with recent notices. A map shows the network of routes; it does not certify that every stretch is open today.
Note your entry and exit. Two articles can quote different distances for “the Bardenas loop” because they start in different places. Do not use a figure without knowing which route it measures.

A day without rushing
- Before leaving, check the weather, notices and fuel.
- On arrival, confirm the route at the information centre if it is open.
- Follow only the authorised itinerary, with a few well-chosen stops.
- Keep a comfortable margin to leave and reach your accommodation.
This is an organisational suggestion, not turn-by-turn navigation. Signage and instructions on the ground take priority.
Check your vehicle
If you hire a car, read the contract: a track that allows traffic does not mean the hire insurance covers its use. If your vehicle is very low or bulky, ask for advice and describe its characteristics.
Do not enter a doubtful passage to “see if it goes”. Postponing the visit or booking a accompanied outing may be more suitable.
If the tracks change
Possible restriction
The park advises against entering when persistent rain has damaged the tracks. At our check on 14 September 2026 a closure was also listed between the Perimetral and El Paso. Verify its current status before you travel.
Never bypass a barrier on a secondary track. Have an alternative activity nearby and reschedule the visit if needed.
