Activities in the Bardenas Reales

What the park allows, and what it does not

The tourist-use rules (BON 148, 25 June 2021) apply to everyone:

• Visits from 8:00 until one hour before nightfall. In winter Visit Navarra says to leave before 16:30.
• Motor vehicles: only enabled, signposted tracks; 40 km/h; no groups of five or more vehicles; no motor competitions.
• Bicycles: tracks and paths only, preferably the marked network; no cross-country on crops, hills, ravines or slopes. Bike races need the president’s authorisation.
• Horses with a rider: marked itineraries only. Organised equestrian events need the president’s authorisation.
• On foot: enabled trails, tracks and paths. The military zone is off-limits.

The manager’s 2021 A3 leaflet distinguishes short walks, nine MTB circuits and “several main tracks” for motors. Other tracks are reserved for professional use.

Guides on this site:

• Mountain bike — the means the park itself describes as best for getting to know the territory in depth.
• Horse riding — marked itineraries only; firms publish rides from Arguedas.
• 4x4 — your vehicle or a guided visit, on motor tracks only.
• Buggy — the same motor-vehicle rules; usually a commercial activity.
• Quad — also a motor vehicle: the rules create no “quad exception”.

Other documented offers: guided van or bus visits, e-bike (Compañía de Guías publishes “Bardena eBike”) and walking. Visit Navarra lists Castildetierra and Barranco de las Cortinas (1.15 km) and El Fraile (almost 6 km).

On your own or with a firm

Go independently if you have a suitable vehicle or bike, an official map and will turn back if a track is closed. Book a firm if you want interpretation or do not want to manage the route.

Visit Navarra lists guided activities. That is a tourism catalogue, not a Vive Bardenas certification. Firms named here are not partners; we do not copy prices.

Before you book

• Navarre tourism register number and whether the guide travels with the group.
• Language on the ground, meeting point, duration.
• Who drives, licence required, age, helmet.
• Which official tracks, and what happens in rain, notices or nesting limits.
• Total price, minimum numbers, cancellation.

Shared limits

• No camping or overnight stays in the open.
• No recreational drones, fire, climbing or military zone.
• After persistent rain the park advises against entering.
• Dogs on a lead of 3 m maximum; not inside park buildings.
